» Is there a difference between copyediting and proofreading?
Yes. Proofreading is light editing. If your document is proofed, you can ensure that has been checked for correct usage, grammar, correct tables and figures, punctuation, capitalization. The editor will also highlight awkward phrases. If your document needs a professional set of eyes to ensure that it is error and grammar free, then consider having you document proofread. This service is also less expensive than copy editing.
All of the aforementioned items are considered in copyediting, but the editors will also consider structure, awkwardly written phrases, citation formatting, adherence to style, gaps, and organization of the document. The editor may delete redundant passages, include more extensive comments, and suggest organizational changes to the document. This service is more expensive than proofreading.
